About the Metro Archives

Welcome to the Metro Archives Blog! As part of our mission to increase the accessibility of our records, we have created a place where we can share some of our intriguing finds and tell the stories behind them.

As a division of the Nashville Public Library, we collect and preserve the historically valuable records relating to the local government bodies of the City of Nashville, Davidson County, and Metropolitan Government. In addition, we also house other records of enduring historic value that document and reflect the history of Nashville and Davidson County. We have over 5 million records in our collections, including maps and plats, deeds and wills, marriage licenses and bonds, court minute books, newspapers, manuscripts, recordings, photographs, and artifacts that date from 1780 to the present.

The mission of the Metro Archives is to collect and preserve the permanent value of the historical records of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.
